About Us

History

EdTechReview.com was created by Dave Johnston. Dave has an extensive background in information technology and spent about 15 years working in K-12 public education and the California Community College system. He often received phone calls or emails from colleagues asking about his experience with various pieces of education technology hardware and software.

In attending statewide conferences such as the California Education Technology Professionals Association (CETPA) conference, Dave found that the same sorts of discussions were taking place at these conferences with peers sharing good and bad experiences on various pieces of equipment.

Finally, about 3 or 4 times a month, Dave noticed ongoing discussions on various listservs asking about different technology products. It seemed like the same products came up every few months and people were often asking the same question over and over.

Being a Geek, Dave decided that there had to be a better way for people working in education technology to be able to share opinions about different vendors and products. Thus EdTechReview.com was born.

EdTechReview.com is built using Open Source tools such as Linux, Apache, PHP and MySQL.

Mission

The intent is that EdTechReview.com can be a source for unbiased reviews from one education technology professional to another. By learning from the good and bad experiences of others, hopefully we can avoid making expensive mistakes on the wrong technology.
